The reader will please regard these papers as the merewhiskings of a petrel’s pinions skimming the blue surgeof deep waters. The utmost hope of the author goesno further than that here and there something maybe found to pleasantly lighten the tedium of a sleeplesshalf-hour in the bunk or hammock, or relieve thedulness of a spell of quarter-deck lounging. It would have been troublesome to disturbthe original text, and some new matter, therefore, hasbeen included in the form of notes.
