Spoken of in 1 Sam. XXVIII. begin. at the 11th Verse.
SHEWING,

1. How She and all other Witchesdo beget or produce that FamiliarSpirit they deal with, andwhat a Familiar Spirit is, andhow those Voices are procured, and Shapes appear unto them, whereby the Ignorant and UnbelievingPeople are deceived bythem.

2. It is clearly made appear in thisTREATISE, that no Spiritcan be raised without its Body, neither can any Spirit assume anyBody after Death; For if theSpirit doth walk, the Body mustwalk also.

3. An Interpretation of all thoseScriptures, that doth seem as ifSpirits might go out of Men'sBodies when they die, and subsistin some Place or other withoutBodies.

Lastly, Several other Things needfulfor the Mind of Man to know;which whoever doth understand,it will be great Satisfaction.

TO THE READER.

I Have been desired by several Friends, to setforth the Interpretation concerning the Witchof Endor and King Saul; how it may beunderstood how she raised Samuel, and howFamiliar Spirits came to be procured, and withwhat Power they do such strange Things. Many Enemies also have objected this Place,to prove that Spirits may be raised without Bodies, and that Spirits may walk, or be happy ormiserable without Bodies: Though I have givenan Answer in Discourse to these Doubts andQuestions, but few can retain in their Memorywhat is spoken in Discourse; therefore I thoughtit convenient and necessary to set it forth inPrint, for the Information and Satisfaction ofmany Friends who desire it, and for the Convincementof all Gain-sayers. And let themseriously read it over without Prejudice, and theymay see this Point clearly opened, which hathlaid hid this many Hundred Years, with otherPlaces of Scriptures opened, which many haveobjected against this Interpretation, and all thosePlaces of Scripture that is commonly brought, ordoth most seem to hold forth, that Spirits maybe without Bodies, are likewise opened and expoundedin short in this Treatise, as followeth.
