We are not old enough to have beenpolitically detained at Verdun. Ourimpressions of Napoleon are soured byno recollections of personal tyranny;and though a near relative wasted thebetter portion of his life in the drearyenjoyments of that conventional fortress,we do not carry the spirit ofclanship so far as to entertain on thataccount a revengeful hatred towardsthe memory of the Corsican.
