TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE

The table of contents is unusual. Seven of the topics in thetable do not refer to chapters but rather to sections of textbetween chapter headings. The book contains two chapterheadings not listed in the table of contents. An editorialdecision was made to leave the table of contents as it wasprinted in the original book.

FOREWORD

In preparing this sketch of the 149th Regiment,Ohio Volunteer Infantry, the author hasdepended upon the memory of events that madea lasting impression upon a young mind. Hedoes not claim to have written a full history ofthis service, that is stored in the memories andexperiences of the different members of the Regiment. He does claim, however, that the mainfacts and movements of the Regiment and theother bodies of troops associated with it in thefield, are accurate.

The writer was fortunate in making a recordof dates and incidents, soon after his return, which record has been invaluable in the preparationof this sketch.

If the little booklet will be interesting to mycomrades, or of any value in a historical way, Ishall feel amply repaid for the labor in preparingit.

George Perkins
